Why boxing for kids

More than punches

Cappy's youth program uses boxing and movement to build skills kids carry far outside the gym. Every session is age-appropriate and adapted to different experience levels, abilities, and group needs.

Confidence

Kids learn they can do hard things — and walk taller for it.

Coordination

Footwork, timing, and balance that carry over to every sport.

Physical fitness

A full hour of moving, sweating, and getting stronger.

Personal safety

Awareness and self-protection fundamentals, taught responsibly.

Teamwork

Partner drills and group games — everybody works together.

Emotional regulation

Focus, discipline, and a healthy outlet for big energy.

For the parents

Contact? Your call.

Every family chooses how far to take it. Kids can train fully non-contact and still get everything out of the program — and those who want to test themselves can work up to controlled contact and sparring under close coach supervision. Nobody is ever required to spar, and either path can change whenever you and your kid want. Coaches match every drill to age, experience, and comfort level.

Cappy's has spent 25+ years teaching boxing to complete beginners. Unpretentious. Results oriented. Empowering. That goes for the kids, too.

Questions parents ask

Before the first bell

Does my kid need any boxing experience?

None. The program is built for beginners and returning students alike, and coaches adapt every class to different ages, experience levels, and abilities.

How much contact is involved?

As much or as little as you and your kid choose. Students can train fully non-contact, or take on controlled contact and sparring when they're ready — always coach-supervised and matched to each kid's level. No one is ever required to spar, and you can change your mind either way at any time.

What does it cost?

A flat $100 per month — that's it. And cost should never keep a kid out of the gym: ask about Cappy's Community Fund, which offers reduced pricing options that meet your circumstances. Email gym@cappysgym.com.

What should we bring?

Comfortable clothes, clean shoes, and a water bottle. Questions about gloves or gear? Ask at your first class or email gym@cappysgym.com — we'll get your kid sorted.

Where is Cappy's?

2719 East Union St B09, Seattle, WA 98122 — in the Central District, same gym floor where Cappy's has trained Seattle since 1999.
